Edouard “King” Lacroix’s Madawaska
Company purchased a ninety-ton steam locomotive in New York. Later
bought out by Great Northern Paper in 1927 and became the Eagle
Lake and West Branch Railroad Built in December 1901 Brooks Locomotive Works (2-8-0 stamped 4062) |
The railroad ran from Eagle Lake thirteen miles to Umbazooksus Lake, then the waters of Chesuncook Lake floated the logs to the West Branch of the Penobscot River and on to Bangor Maine in 1926. |

Cable tramway operated by steam
engine to move logs from Eagle Lake to Churchill Lake. Cables wheels and tracks remain amongst the trees. Many old log carrying railroad cars and tracks from the Eagle Lake and West Branch Railroad are also in the woods. |
